French Revolution- It was influenced by the American Revolution. The people wanted a democratic form of government with a Constitution and rights. Jefferson wanted to join the French since they helped the U.S., but Hamilton said no. Washington issued neutrality proclamation of 1793 which meant the U.S. wouldn't join either side. (Pic 1)

Whiskey Rebellion- The tax on whiskey angered corn farmers on frontier. The farmers made corn into whiskey because whiskey lasted longer than corn. The farmers refused to pay the tax. Washington sent in troops to put down rebellion which proved the government would enforce the constitution.

Establishing precedents- Washington didn't want to be a king so he was called Mr.President. He served two terms and every president after only served two terms. Washington said no where in the Constitution was there a provision for a cabinet.

Farewell Address- Washington had 3 main pieces of advice: 1) avoid alliances and war- remain neutral 2) avoid political parties- divide our country 3) avoid debt

Political parties- The two main parties were Federalists created by Alexander Hamilton and the Democratic Republicans were created by Thomas Jefferson.

Strong- George Washington strongly opposed other nations and he always wanted to do the right thing for his country. Washington set a perfect example of civic virtue and he set great precedents for future presidents to follow.
