Steps:

1. Begin by cutting sections 1&2 using the one length technique.

2. Sections 3&4 is where the graduation begins. Let down section 3 and take 1-2" subsections depending on the density of the hair, clip the rest away. Repeat with section 4.

3. Next determine the correct elevation of the hair. In order to do so, place the end of the comb to the part where the subsection lies. Raise the subsection as well as apart of the guide from underneath T-to section (in the center).

4. Using primary scissors position, cut to guide.

5. Continue from center to right then center to left, making sure to find the correct elevation with your comb and cutting to the guide.

6. Check for balance and fix what is necessary prior to moving forward.

7. Drop sections 5&6. Subsections in these sections will be 1/2-1/4" thick.

Graduated Technique

Steps (cont):

8. Using the wide teeth of the comb, brush the hair down evenly distributing over the crown.

9. With head upright, continue using the comb to find the correct elevation around the head.

10. Graduate the front perimeter by creating a safety section (no farther than 2.5" back).

11. Use the comb from the front safety section to find correct elevation and cut to guide.

12. Continue by graduating side perimeters. Comb the rest of the hair in the side perimeter (the hair in front of the diagonal parting) forward T to the section. Determine the comb elevation. Carefully determine the location of points A and B and cut.(see photo 1)

13. Continue taking 1" sections back and graduating it cutting to the guide u til the hair stops reaching. Repeat steps on the other side.

14. Check for balance.
