Cutting sections 1&2

Steps:

1. Section the hair into the 6 basic sections.

2. You will want to establish the guideline by tipping the head forward and letting down sections 1 & 2.

3. Using the fine teeth of the comb, brush the hair straight down into gravity at 0 degree elevation.

4. Starting at the center at the nape, use the spine of the

comb to secure a portion of the section (a little from each of sections 1 and 2) against the nape of the neck.

5. Using secondary position, cut the hair to desired length. Continue the cut to the clients right, then from center to the clients left.

6. Check for balance and fix what is necessary before continuing

Cutting sections 3&4

Steps:( cont.)

7. Position client's head upright and drop sections 3 & 4.

8. If you cannot see the guide, make sure to subsection the hair. Using the fine teeth of the comb, brush the hair into gravity following the comb with your scissors in secondary position.

9. Secure the hair at the center of the back by placing the large teeth of the comb through the hair and against theclient’s neck. Using secondary position, cut the hair to the guide at 0 degree elevation.

10. Again, cut the hair from center to the right, then center to the left.

11. Check the balance of the cut and fix any imperfections before moving forward.

**Please note: When cutting by the ear, hold the hair with the wide teeth of the comb to produce light tension. Allow the ear to protrude and let the hair fall loosely. Not taking extra care inthis area can cause an uneven perimeter below the ear.

Cutting sections 5&6

Steps (cont):

12. Drop all remaining hair. Again, if the hair is dense, you will need to subsection the hair as necessary.

13. Comb the hair into gravity and evenly distribute the hair.

14. Using secondary position, cut the hair to the guideline.

15. Continue cutting the hair from the center to the right, then from the center to the left.

16. Check for balance one last time and make sure to fix anything that does not line up.

**Note : Growth patterns will affect the way you cut. Keep these points in mind:

• Allow strong growth patterns to fall naturally into

gravity.

• Use very light tension when combing and cutting hairwith strong growth patterns.

• As an alternative, dry the hair before cutting any hair

with strong growth patterns or strong curl.
