Main Idea

An a adaptation is a special feature or behavior that helps an organism survive in its environment.

Vocabulary

Adaptations: Special traits that help an organism survive in  their environment.

Camouflage: An adaptation that allows an animal to blend in with its surroundings.

Mimicry: When one organism imitates the trait of another.

Genetics: The study of how organisms pass along traits over periods of time.

Notes

An example of genetics is when sharks pass on their sharp teeth.


An example of mimicry is when a butterfly of its inner wings to blend in with a tree by looking like an old leaf.


Sometimes animals use their skin to blend in with their surroundings. An animal might blend in with the ocean floor.
