1) Oral and digestive cavities (the mouth)- contains the teeth, and tongue. This cavity is a continuous part of the digestive organs, which open to the exterior at the anus.
2) Nasal Cavity- located within and posterior to the nose. The nasal cavity is part of the respiratory system passageways.
3) Orbital Cavity- the orbital cavity (orbits) in the skull houses the eyes and presents them in an anterior position.
4) Middle Ear Cavities- are carved into the skull and lie just medical to the eardrums. These cavities contain tiny bones that transmit sound vibrations to the hearing receptors in the inner ears.
5) Synovial Cavities- are joint cavities. They are enclosed within fibrous capsules that surround freely moveable joints of the body (such as elbow and knee joints). Membranes lining synovial cavities secrete a lubricating fluid that reduces friction as the bones move across one another.
