Indus Civilization 3300-1300 BCE

Mystery Mound

In 1827, Charles Masson, a wanderer after leaving the East India Company Artillery, stumbled across some mysterious piles of brick near the Indus River. At first, he believed it was the ruins of an old castle. However, after closer examination, he realized he had discovered an ancient city later named Harappa. Although he publicized his find, it was not very well known.

Officially, in the 1920's archaeologists began to excavate the sites, and what they found was astonishing. A huge civilization they never knew about had existed right under their noses.
