Louis Feuillade: Fantomas 1916 1.35

In the 19 teens, Louis Feuillade became the master of the film serial, producing a string of serials (Fantomas, Les Vampires, Judex etc). These were hugely successful - people then usually went twice a week to the cinema - it was still such a novelty), the cliff-hanger was invented, cinema-owners were guaranteed repeat visits. The surrealists later formed a fan-club for the appreciation of Fantomas. regarding the silent film as a medium for projecting interior fantasies, dreams and myths for collective consumption.
