James Stuart Blackton: The Enchanted Drawing 1900

In the 1890s and 1900s, all films were experimental, and most were very short one-reelers (10 minutes or less - the amount of film shot in one reel). As Melies had presented his films in a theatrical context using live-action, costume, stage-sets etc, others like Blackton used their drawing ability to create the earliest animations - these films combine live-action and animation for the first time.
