Emma Willard
Emma Willard opened one of the nations first academically rigorous schools for girls. It was called The Troy Female Seminary and it became the model for a new type of women's schools. Despite all the mockery her school was very successful and later lead to better schooling for women.
Mary Lyon
Mary founded another important institution of higher learning for women. It was called Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. In the same year of her opening this school a college in Ohio admitted four women to its degree program.
