Dorothea Dix
She started off teaching Sunday schools at prisons and asylums. She was horrified at the things they had children doing in there. She gathered information on all the terrible things going on in prisons across Massachusetts. She made a report for the Massachusetts state legislature and the lawmakers voted to create separate asylums for the mentally insane people. After this she continued to travel to other states and change the living conditions in all of the other prisons.
