The cult of domesticity or the cult of true womanhood was used to emphasize new ideas of femininity. A "True Woman" needs to poses 4 virtues. These virtues are piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness. Women were depicted as delicate and weak and that why they were supposed to stay at home and do things such as cook and clean.
