When the baby was placed in the cradleboard the mother would place a soft deeskin over the board and line it with a thick layer of moss which had been dried and fluffed out, this would cushion the wood and serve as a diaper. Blankets made of rabbit fur or deer hide were wrapped around baby as was necessary for the weather.
