Anatomy subdivisions
GROSS(Macroscopic)ANATOMY:
Gross anatomy deals with the study of large body structures visible to the naked eye. (ex.heart,lungs,kidneys)
REGIONAL ANATONY:
This subdivision of anatomy is when all structures in a particular region of the body(ex.Abdomen,leg)are examined at the same time.
SYSTEMIC ANATOMY:
Studies the anatomy of the body system by system.
SURFACE ANATOMY:
Studies the internal structures as the relate to the overlying skin surface.
MICROSCOPIC ANATOMY:
Focuses on the structures too small to be seen with the naked eye.Subdivisions of microscopic anatomy include CYTOLOGY(studies the cells of the body) and HISTOLOGY(study of tissues).
DEVELOPMENTAL ANATOMY:
Studies the structural changes that occur in the body throughout the life span. A subdivision of developmental anatomy includes EMBRYOLOGY, which studies the developmental changes that occur before birth.
