Aryan Empire

In 2000 BC through 1500 BC, groups of people who roamed in teams of hunters came to northwest India. They came through mountain passes and hiked over plains. The Aryan people where though to have come from Central Asia and Europe. They married within the civilizations already there in order to intermix cultures and make the Aryans.

The Beginning

Not many artifacts were left behind by these groups of people, however architects were able to decipher much from what was there. The Aryans left little architectural evidence and built few, small cities. However, the Aryans made the Vedas which is still used 4,000 years later in several religions. They separated different social classes in what is the caste system.

The Legacy

The Religion and Society

They were polytheistic people and believed the gods represented nature, earth, and animals just like in past and future civilizations. Indra was a very important god of that time and represent many things like war, lightening, and power. The Aryans fought in small clans lead by chiefs and even made tools out iron in fighting, just like the Hittites. Literature was very important to them and left a lot of information on their ways of life. Oral tradition was also very essential, as the Vedas was built on it.

The Downfall

The downfall of the Aryan empire was not known for sure, but left a lasting legacy. They created the Vedas and were a mixed civilization. The Aryans ended up mixing with other tribes and becoming Indo-Aryans races, thus transforming into the Mauryan race.
