The cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were the prosperous cities of the Indus River Valley that had technology that we still use today, over 4,000 years ago. The cite of Harappa was found near northeast Pakistan and is about 4 miles wide. The city was badly damaged, but most of the history divulged gave us a good idea off what happened in Harappa. We know that these were the two biggest cities of that time, so the roads went in a grid pattern to make traveling easier. In order to store grain, both cities had granaries made of stone and brick. They used mud and bricks to build houses that included plumbing systems and places to bathe. It is surprising that even 4,000 years ago civilization had sewer to transport waste underground.

The Big Cities of Indus River Valley

Harappa

Mohenjo-Daro

Mohenjo-Daro had large walls surrounding the entire 4 mile city made of brick and clay. This gives evidence that they had a system of measures that the people of the Indus River used to build the architecture and temples. There was a temple in every city that was dedicated to worshipping there gods. Farming was also a big aspect, because they traded cotton, wood, and cloth. Trading was a huge aspect of their ways of life, because their economy was trade-barter. The city of Mohenjo-Daro was well planned and set out in a easy pattern.
