The Vedic Age
The Vedas
The Vedic age gets its name from the word Vedas, because that was the time this book was created. In this time period from about 1500-500 BC, Aryan priests wrote down stories and prayers. At first, it was just oral tradition that got passed down for hundreds of years. It is mostly just faithful word-of-mouth sharing. They are not quite sure when this time period ended or started but the Vedic age shapes a huge part of Indian culture and life.
The Vedas is one of the most important works of literature in Ancient Indian history. It is sacred text in Hinduism and many other religions. It is not just on book but several clusters of chapters put together, much like the Bible. It is divided into 4 sections: Rigveda, Yajuveda, Samaveda, and Atharvaveda. Over the years, the Vedas has been used for many purposes and has still stood the test of time. There are many key aspects of a religion in the holy book. The Vedas has stories, songs, hymns, chants (mantras), legends, and much more about the Aryan culture and religions. The people in the Vedas were portrayed as fun-loving, chariot racing, leaders who ate and drank heartily.
