Pro-slavery arguments

Some proslavery advocates used the bible to defend slavery, and used passages to show that slaves need to obey their masters. Slave owners invented the myth of the happy slave, a cherished addition to the plantation family. Southerners would care for their slaves for a lifetime. The gag rule was used in the government in regard to getting rid of slavery in the government. It was a rule limiting and preventing debate on a issue.
