Dorothea Dix
Major leaders of the asylum/prison Reform
Dorothea Dix was apart of the movement for social reform and when she visited a correction house she was horrified to see mentally ill people in the jail cells. She sent a letter explaining her findings to the Massachusetts legislature and they passed a law that would improve the conditions. She emphasized the idea of rehabilitation, and treatments that might help the sick and impriosoned.
