Lyman Beecher
Major leaders of the temperance movement
Lyman Beecher was a minister from Connecticut that began lecturing people about drinking alcohol in 1825. A year later she founded the American Temperance Society. By 1833, 6000 local temperance societies were in the country. They made rallies and pamphletsr that were educational and that caused a decrease in the amount of alcohol consumed.
