Camp Life

Camp life during the civil war was brutal. They had barely any shelter, food/water, clothing to suffice during the harsh times. Like being in war wasn't bad enough already they had to endure freezing winters and long periods of time without food. Training was pretty rough on the soldiers too. When they had little food in their stomach and they would have to go through a long period of hell. Generals would make them work, work, work, and train. Usually camps aren't settled in just one place, war breaks out. So the camps and soldiers and their belongings would have to move places constantly and soldiers would die on the way to places too. The comfort soldiers had were writing back home to their loved ones. Receiving letters back was like their reward to them knowing everybody back home is good and healthy. Soldiers didn't get a lot of leisure alone time to themselves, it was all mostly war time. For the little time they got to themselves it would be used to writing back to their wives and children. Overall, camp life was just miserable for the soldiers and they would go days without showering because water was always scarce. Soldiers would work a lot but then when they ate, they didn't have a big amount of food so they would have to fight with little stomachs.
