1921-1938 summaries
The Harlem Renaissance was significant because it took place in Harlem between the end of Wolrd War l and middle of 1930's. It was a cultural place for black poets, artists, musicians, etc. This period of time was hard for everybody especially the rural blacks. Everything got so much more expensive and many people left the city because it was just too hard for them. White poeple were taking all the good jobs so there was basically no jobs left for the blacks. The Moore vs. Dempsey included 12 black farmers who were to die because they killed a white in a riot. It was also the white people's fault but only the blacks were being punished for it. Whites were so determined to get the black race killed that if the court didn't do anything about it, they would. Charles Hamilton joined the NAACP to plan an attack on Jim Crow. He felt the time was right for this to happen and the court made decisions regarding black poeple's rights.
