In the early 19th century, women did not have many rights. Women had to stay home and take care of the family after they got married. The only activities women were allowed to do were housework and childcare. This later became known as the cult of domesticity. Women could not vote or sit in juries. After a women got married, all her property and money was in the possession of her husband's.
