Education for women
Elementary school was the basic education avenue for girls. There were only a few beyond that in the 1820s. Schools such as The Troy Female Seminary, Mount Holyoke Female Seminart, Mount Holyoke College, and Ohio's Oberlin College were created. African American women had a harder time getting an education. People protested against African American women having an education. Only after the civil war would the severely limited educational opportunities for African American women finally expand.
