July 29, 1805 - April 16, 1859

Alexis de Tocqueville was a French writer who came to the United States to study it's penitentiary system. Made great efforts to reform the asylums and prisons. He also wrote many reports and works. He was elected the general counsellor of Manchester in 1842. Then eventually became the president of the departments counseling general
