Dorothea Dix was a social reformer who out in efforts to change mentally ill people in prisons to rehabilitation. She was appointed superintendent of Army Nurses by Union Army. And eventually elected president of the Army Nurses Association

July 29, 1805 - April 16, 1859
Alexis de Tocqueville was a French writer who came to the United States to study it's penitentiary system. Made great efforts to reform the asylums and prisons. He also wrote many reports and works. He was elected the general counsellor of Manchester in 1842. Then eventually became the president of the departments counseling general
