The cult of domesticity
House work and child care were the only proper activities for married women in the mid-1800s was known as cult of domesticity. 1/5 women worked for wages for a few years before they were married. 1/10 single white women worked outside the home earring about half the pay men did. Women could not voted/ sit on juries.
