Education reform
In the mid 1800s there was no uniform educational policy. School conditions varied across regions. Massachusetts and Vermont were the only states before the civil war to pass a compulsory school attendance law. Not many kids continued school past age of 10. Tax supported public schools began to be demanded in 1830s.Tax supported meaning property taxes were paid and then some of the money went to fund public education.
