Women actively participated in all important reform movements. Many middle class white women were inspired by the positive message from the Second Great Awakening. Women abolitionists raised money, distributed literature and collected signatures for petitions to congress to overthrow the horrible system of inequality and cruelty. Some men sided with the women, where others were strongly against it. Rejection only made the women more determined. The abolitionist cause became a power start to the women's rights movements. Sarah and Angelina Grimké were played major roles in the abolition.
