The stereotype that women were responsible for housework and child care is called the cult of domesticity. Only one out of every ten women worked out of the house. Women could not vote or sit on juries in the early 1800s. Women lost the control of her property and her earned money to her husband when they married. Women tried to reform also but were sometimes kept out of meetings by men . They continued to try and get their equal rights.
