Charles Finney was a preacher who thought of slavery as "a great national sin." He fueled the support for abolition. William Garrison forced a message to be delivered for the freeing of slaves. Some whites hated him because they supported slavery and some who supported freedom hated him for attacking churches and the government about it. David Walker, a free black, wrote "Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World."
