Dorothea Dix joined the reform of the prisons. She went to jails in Massachusetts and realized that these jails were holding mentally ill people. She convinced nine southern states to start public hospitals for mentally ill people. By helping all the ill people, Dorothea Dix made people believe there was hope for everyone.
