The Cult of Domesticity

In 1850 approximately 1 in 5 white women had worked for wages before they married. And of the 1 in 5, 1 in 10 worked outside the home. If they did work outside of their home they received half the pay men received. Women could not vote either. Then when she married all her earnings and property went to the man. The also did not have many rights over their children.
