Jim Crow Laws
After the American Civil War, most states passed an Anti-African American Legislature. These became known as the Jim Crow Laws.
These laws prohibited that African Americans attend public schools, and use public facilities like theaters, restaurants, hotels & public baths. Trains & buses were also segregated.
Any person who disobeyed these laws was arrested and fined. This was until 1965 when African Americans led by Rosa Parks & Martin Luther King organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
