Civil Rights Act of 1866
On April 9, 1866, The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was passed.This act gave citizenship to all male people in the United States "without discussion of race or color, or previous condition of slavery or involuntary servitude."
This meant that African Americans were granted their citizenship.
