21. The three major regions of a generalized cell are the plasma membrane, the cytoplasm, and the nucleus. The plasma membrane is a fragile barrier and the outer boundary to the cell. The cytoplasm is internal to the cell membrane. It is an intracellular fluid that is packed with organelles, small structures that perform specific cell functions. The nucleus controls cellular activities and lies near the cell's center.
