2. a. These antibiotics influence chemical reactions controlled by the enzymes by stopping the function of the enzyme. Since the enzyme is what encourages the bacterial growth, it will be stopped and the bacteria will die.
b. The anticipated effect on the bacteria would be that the antibiotic would kill the bacteria or keep it from continuing to replicate. It would also stop the growth of the virus to let the immune system heal and get better.
3. a. pH is a measurement of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution based on the amount of hydrogen ions available. The normal pH of blood is 7.36-7.44.
b. Severe acidosis is problematic because hemoglobin becomes denatured and then oxygen can't join it and be carried to the cells. It destroys some of the cells our body needs to function properly.
