John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry, VA

John Brown was an abolitionist who wished to go into the south secretly and get the slave to cause an uprise by giving them weapons and then establish a black free state. It was in October 1859 that he invaded the federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry, VA. Due to the fact that many of his followers did not show up Brown's plan failed and he was caught and sentenced to death by hanging.
The death of Brown caused the north to be angered because he was fighting for a cause they supported, abolitionism. The south was just angered because he wished to help the slaves become free by giving them weapons in order to form an uprising. All in all the raid caused anger to rise which in turn caused tension to rise and ultimately the civil war.
