The Compromise of 1850 increased the anger of both the north and south because they were both unsatisfied with the results of the 'compromise' and it caused their constancy to increase leading to the war. This 'compromise' is number six due to it not being agreeable to both the north and south.

Compromise of 1850

The Missouri Compromise didn't have much of an impact on the tention between the north and the south because both were satisfied with the compromise that gave them equal representation at this time. This is the reason it is number 9.

Publication of Uncle Toms Cabin

The publication of this book caused the abolitionists numbers to rise because it raised the awareness of the northerners by telling them how slavery was in the south though the author may have exagerated a bit. This event is not as significant because the book may have been read by many but it also didn't cause quite as much of an uproar compared to others which is the reason it is number 7.

Sumner's beating raised awareness of his speech that had previously not been very significant. This speech had insulted people who had supported the south and slavery there which angered the south and the beating he was given angered the north. Both were angered and realized just how far people were going to put the others down, even using violence. This event was not as significant as others because it was one man but it still made an impact. This beating made it to number eight due to these reasons.
