The Election of 1860
The election of 1860 was the tipping point of the the teeter tauter that went crashing down into civil war because of slavery. The reason this is the tipping point is because the south now had a reason to secede, they feared that slavery would be abolished. If Lincoln had not been elected and instead his opponent who supported slavery being preserved in the south was elected the south would be satisfied with the results and would not have tried to secede. This is the reason that the election is number one.
