Election of 1860

The Election of 1860 was won by Abraham Lincoln though he did not win the popular vote. Some southern states even refused to put him on the ballet. When Lincoln was elected president many southern states joined South Carolina in the voting to secede. This caused war to erupt, the Civil War.

The Election of 1860 was between Lincoln, Bell, Douglass, and Breckenridge. The election was close between Douglass and Lincoln but Lincoln was able to gain more electoral votes so he won the election. This is due to the split in the Democratic Party due to Douglas's view on popular sovereignty.
