Ancient Greek Olympics
The first athlete to run naked was Orsippos, in the 15th century. Some say he ran naked because it gave him an edge, soon enough everyone competed naked. Some athletes wore a thing called kynodesme.
Competitors loved to display their muscly bodies, to pay respect to Zeus. They showed Zeus that they trained their body to the limits. Men that had the more musclier bodies, would be more threatening to competitors.
Before the competitors trained or competed they rubbed their self in olive-oil, then in very fin sand. They did this to help their body temperature stay the same and to protected them from the sun.
After the competitors finished competing they would scrap the sweat, oil, and sand off, with a tool called strigil.
