Vertical Short Layer

Vertical layers create the least amount of weight in the back and side areas of the head.
Tools Needed: shears and comb
Start with a wet drape, shampoo and condition, and finish with a dry drape.

Step One: Create a center part. Create sections five and six. All the hair above the parietal ridge should be isolated and create a guide.

Step Two: Start on the clients right side. Apply a half inch to one inch subsection. Separate the remaining hair and clip it out of the way if necessary.

Step Three: Use the fine teeth of the comb to position the hair T to the subsection. Use your fingers to hold the hair at ninety degrees, T to the section. Hold with medium and even tension.

Step Four: Cut the hair, using primary scissors position and cut to the length you want as a guide.
