Chapter 22
1. How does Jem react to the verdict?
-He is so dumbfounded by how his father didn't win. Jem was heartbroken, he even cried. He thought it wasn't right.
2. Why does Atticus think it was acceptable for the children to be at the trial?
-He thought it was just another part of the town they lived in, the older generation did this, and the children had to deal with it and know about it sooner or later.
3. How does Atticus respond to the gifts of food from the black community?
-He is very appreciative and told Calpurnia to thank them for him. But that they can never do that again because times are too hard.
4. What things does Miss Maudie point out that Jem and Scout hadn't realized?
-Maybe that they are people in town who think that Tom was innocent. And that they appointed Atticus for a reason, to maybe win, he's the best lawyer in town, if anyone has a chance it's him.
5. What does Mr. Ewell do to Atticus?
-He cussed at him and spat on him. He also told Atticus he'd get him if it was the last thing he ever did.
