Asylum/Prison Reform

The prisons were punishing their prisoners very harshly, even though the United States states that liberty plays a great role. Reformers immediately put the cause into mind. It was found that the prison house was jailing mentally ill people. The Massachusetts legislature worked to improve the conditions of the houses. The prisoners and ill were then given the idea of rehabilitation, which would give them a useful bad rightful place in society.
