The Temperance Movement
The temperance movement was "the effort to prohibit the drinking of alcohol." This was wanted because women said that alcohol is "evil." Alcohol was used for washing down salted meat and for doctors to dose their patients with it before they begun their operations. However, the alcohol was found dangerous by many Anericans. All of the rallies and pamphlets reduced the "consumption" of alcohol by the people.
