Some slave owners tried to protest that their slaves are happy how they live, being a part of the family that owns them.

Christian ministers started to accept slavery at this time. They used to be against it, but now do not mind slavery.

People in the south protested that they care for their slaves almost as they are family, so they should not have to be banished of having slaves.
