Negative Feedback Mechanisms- The output shuts off the original stimulus or reduces it's intensity. (Most homeostatic control mechanisms)
-This causes the variable to change in a direction opposite to that of the initial change returning to it's "ideal" value
Positive Feedback Mechanisms- The result/response enhances the original stimulus so that the activity is accelerated
•positive because the change occurs in the same direction as the initial disturbance
•usually control infrequent events that don't have to be constantly adjusting
