John has been suffering agonizing pain with each breathe and has been informed by a physician that he has pleurisy. The membranes that are involved in this condition are the serous membranes. They usually secrete serous fluid that allows organs to slide without friction across cavity walls and one another. When they become inflamed, they don't produce as much fluid, creating friction as the organs move which is why there is pain.
When we become dehydrated, we usually feel thirsty, which causes due to drink fluids. This is part of negative feedback mechanisms because when the thirst is quenched, the body is no longer thirsty and the levels go back up.
