Subdivisions of Anatomy:
•Gross (microscopic) Anatomy- The study of large body structures visible to the naked eye (heart, lungs, kidney)
Regional Anatomy- All of the structures in a particular region of the body are examined at the same time
Systematic Anatomy- Studied system by system
Surface anatomy- Study of internal structures as they relate to the overlying skin surface
Developmental Anatomy- traces the structural changes that occur in the body throughout the life span
Embryology- concerns the developmental changes that occur before birth
Microscopic Anatomy- Concerns structures too small to be seen with the naked eye
Cytology- considers cells of the body
Histology- Study of tissues
Medical:
Pathological Anatomy- Structural changes caused by disease
Radiographic Anatomy- internal structures as visualized by X-Rays
Molecular Biology- Structure of biological molecules is investigated
