Gland- consists of one or more cells that make and secrete a particular product
Endocrine Glands
-eventually lose their ducts
-produce hormones (either enter the blood or lymphatic fluid)
-Structurally diverse
-Most are compact multicellular organs
-Secretions are varied
Exocrine Glands
-far more number kid than endocrine glands
-Secrete products onto body surfaces or into body cavities
-diverse
Unicellular Exocrine Glands
-goblet cell- sprinkled in the epithelial linings if the intestinal and respiratory tracts
-produce mucin -> mucus
Multicellular Exocrine Glands
-Structurally more complex than unicellular glands
-2 basic parts: epithelium-derived duct & a secretory unit
-either simple or compound
-most secrete by exocytosis
