Chemical Level: Atoms combine to form molecules with water and proteins. These then form organelles.

Cellular level: All cells have some common function but all vary widely in size and shape

Humans: complex & many cells
Simple creatures: single celled

Tissue level- tissues- groups of similar cells that have a common function

For basic tissue types in the human body

Epithelium- covers body surface and lines cavities
Muscle- provides movement
Connective Tissue- supports and protects body organs
Nervous tissue- provides a means of rapid internal communication by transmitting electrical pulses

Organ level: organ- A discrete structure composed of at least two tissue types that perform specific functions for the body

Organismal level- represents the sum total of all structural levels working together to promote life
